College of Political Science, University of Mosul Hosts the Human Rights Commission in Nineveh for a Dialogue Session

The College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, through its Human Rights Unit and the Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit, hosted the Human Rights Commission in Nineveh Governorate for a dialogue session on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.

The session consisted of two lectures delivered by Dr. Nagham Luqman and Mr. Nashwan Salem. The lectures discussed the essence of human rights, their historical development, and their nature within Iraqi laws and constitutions, with a focus on the current 2005 Constitution.

The session concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which emphasized that transforming human rights into genuine, supportive, and enforceable values requires significant legislative effort. It was also highlighted that the Iraqi case in terms of constitutional human rights is considered advanced compared to other constitutions around the world. Moreover, the consolidation of human rights principles and values must begin within various social units, educational and academic institutions, as well as in public domains and other social spaces.

The session was held under the patronage of the Dean of the College and in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit. It was chaired by Dr. Ali Bashar Bakr, Head of the Rehabilitation Unit, and coordinated by Dr. Kawthar Hassan Ghazi, Head of the Human Rights Unit. The session was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Khairallah Subhan Al-Jubouri, along with a group of faculty members and students.
