The Student Activities Division of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul held a workshop on the nature of the relationship between politics and sports on Monday, 28 April 2025.
The relationship between politics and sports is an intertwined duality characterized by mutual influence. Politics affects sports through legislation, funding, and official stances, such as boycotts or support for major events. Conversely, sports influence politics by promoting national identity, shaping public opinion, serving as a diplomatic tool between countries, or highlighting a country’s soft power.
The workshop included an explanation of the duties and role of the division, which focuses on supporting sports, artistic, cultural, and scouting talents.
The workshop was held under the patronage of the Dean of the College and consisted of two lectures delivered by Dr. Omar Abdulaziz Al-Zubaidi, Head of the Division, and Assistant Lecturer Omar Othman Ibrahim, Head of the Cultural Unit. The workshop targeted the student body.
