The Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul Attends Part of a Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Law on the Legal Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage
A master’s thesis entitled “The Legal Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage” by student Ruba Muhammad Khalil was defended at the College of Law, University of Mosul, on Monday, 30 June 2025.
The Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasem Al-Taie, and the College Council Rapporteur, Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Muayad Al-Dabbagh, attended part of the defense.
The thesis aimed to highlight that the Iraqi legislator did not allocate a specific provision for the protection of underwater cultural heritage in Antiquities and Heritage Law No. 55 of 2002. It also pointed out that the UNESCO Convention is the first independent international legal instrument that addresses the international protection of underwater cultural heritage.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read, which included accepting the thesis and granting the student a master’s degree.
