The Campaign to Combat Violence Against Women at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Holds Its First Activities Through a Training Course on the Role of Institutions in Combating Violence

In fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 5: Gender Equality, the Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit (at the University Presidency), as well as the Human Rights Unit (at the College), held the training course titled: “The Role of Political and Legal Institutions in Combating Violence Against Women”, for the period from 25 to 27 November 2025.
The course discussed topics such as state policy and its role in coordinating strategies for reducing violence, abuse, and enhancing development; societal culture toward women and the role of customs and traditions in reinforcing negative gender roles; and legislative mechanisms related to combating violence against women in Iraq. It also addressed the international framework of policies to combat violence against women, women’s underrepresentation in politics as a form of violence, innovative models of effective governmental policies to confront it, and the capacity of public policies to protect women from violence within the context of institutional internationalization. The course concluded with discussions on the psychological and social impacts on women exposed to violence, legal protections for women, and regional efforts to combat violence against women in the Arab world.
The course was held under the supervision of the Dean of the College, and a number of female faculty members alternated in delivering the lectures. It falls within the framework of the Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
