Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul as a Member and Supervisor of a Master’s Thesis in the College of Law on Remedies for Enslavement Crimes/ The Yazidi Case Study

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul; a Master’s thesis entitled “Remedies for Enslavement and Sexual Slavery Crimes in Non-International Armed Conflicts / The Yazidi Case Study,” submitted by the student Khadida Ziyad Shamo, was discussed at the College of Law on Sunday, 21 December 2025. The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Raqib Muhammad Jassim, with membership including several other faculty members, among them the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jassim Al-Taie, as a member and supervisor.
The thesis aimed to study the legal and human rights remedies available to Yazidi victims of enslavement and sexual slavery crimes committed in non-international armed conflicts, analyze their effectiveness, and propose mechanisms to enhance victim protection and achieve justice.
Some members of the councils of both the Colleges of Political Science and Law attended part of the discussion, in addition to a number of faculty members and a group of postgraduate students.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read, which included accepting the thesis and awarding the student a Master’s degree.
