Master’s Thesis at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul Discusses the Japanese Political System and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, the College of Political Science discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Japanese Political System and Its Role in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: Education as a Model”, submitted by the student Ali Abdulameer Ashour, on Monday, 22 December 2025.

The thesis examined the role of the Japanese political system in supporting educational policies as an entry point to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the institutional and legislative mechanisms that enhance the quality of education and ensure equal opportunities. It concluded that the strength of institutions and investment in education, within a stable political environment, have made education a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and improving educational outcomes.

The study aimed to analyze the role of the Japanese political system in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through educational policies, to clarify the impact of the institutional and legislative structure on enhancing educational quality and equal opportunities, and to highlight the relationship between political stability and the effectiveness of education as a pillar of sustainable development.

The examination committee consisted of Professor Dr. Mohammed Ali Mahmoud (Chair), Assistant Professor Dr. Saadi Ibrahim Hussein (Member), Assistant Professor Dr. Khairallah Subhan Al-Jubouri (Member), and Professor Dr. Ziyad Samir Zaki (Member and Supervisor).

Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasim Al-Ta’i, the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Hussein Yassin, and a number of faculty members.

Following the discussion, the committee’s decision was announced, approving the thesis with the required revisions and awarding the student the Master’s degree.
