Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul Attends Part of a Master’s Thesis Defense at the College of Law on the Role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq in Promoting Human Rights

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal Sixteen: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Goal Seventeen: Partnerships for the Goals—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning/ Sustainable Development Unit (at the Presidency of the University of Mosul); a master’s thesis submitted by the student Basim Saud Ma‘yuf was discussed at the College of Law on Monday, 22 December 2025, entitled “The Role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq in Promoting Human Rights.”

Part of the defense was attended by the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Suhaib Khalid Jasim Al-Ta’i, accompanied by Professor Dr. Salah Al-Din Salim Mohammed, a faculty member of the Public Policy Branch.

The thesis examined the role played by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in promoting and protecting human rights, and highlighted the importance of evaluating its operational mechanisms in light of the changing conditions in Iraq. It also shed light on the main challenges and available opportunities for improving the human rights situation, in a manner that contributes to supporting fundamental freedoms and enhancing human rights performance at both the national and international levels.

Following the discussion, the committee’s decision was read, approving the thesis and awarding the student the Master’s degree.
