In pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions—and in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul, the College of Political Science at the University of Anbar held the defense of a Master’s thesis entitled “The Role of International Organizations in Election Monitoring: Iraq as a Case Study,” submitted by the student Hayam Jamal Turki, on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

The defense committee was chaired by Professor Mohammed Khalid Baraa and included a number of faculty members, among them Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Muayyad Younis, a faculty member of the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul.

The thesis examined the role of international organizations in monitoring elections in Iraq by analyzing their functions, mechanisms, and contributions to enhancing the integrity of electoral processes and strengthening democratic principles, highlighting the significance of this topic within the field of contemporary political studies.

Following the defense, the committee announced its decision to approve the thesis subject to the required revisions and to award the student the Master’s degree.
