The College of Law at the University of Mosul witnessed, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the defense of the master’s thesis titled “The Human Right to Sport: A Study in Light of International and National Charters and Legislations – A Comparative Study”, submitted by student Firas Awad Musa Khidhr Al-Ma’mari.

The thesis shed light on the international legal and national legislative foundation upon which individuals’ right to practice sport is based, as one of the fundamental human rights, through a review of relevant international agreements, declarations, and charters, along with an exposition of the constitutional texts and Iraqi legislation that have guaranteed this right. The study also aimed to demonstrate the extent to which international efforts have responded to the rapid developments witnessed in the field of sport, and to strengthen the legal safeguards that establish the right to sport as a human right.

This thesis comes within the framework of the growing interest in promoting comparative legal studies concerned with human rights, contributing to the enrichment of scientific research and highlighting the legal dimensions of emerging rights at both the international and national levels.
