Publication of a Research Paper in Scopus-Indexed Journals

As part of the University of Mosul’s ongoing efforts to support scientific research and promote publication in reputable international journals, a scientific research paper was published by researcher Mohammed Sami Ismail (Asst. Lect.) in participation with Professor Dr. Fawzia Mahmoud, a faculty member, in the proceedings of the international journal AIP Conference Proceedings, which is indexed in Scopus.

The research paper is entitled:

“Comparative Performance Evaluation of the YOLOv9 Algorithm for Detecting Smokers in Public Places: Insights for Sustainable Development”

It addressed the development of an intelligent system based on artificial intelligence techniques for the automatic detection of smoking incidents in public places.

The research aims to harness modern technologies in the service of society by providing intelligent solutions that contribute to monitoring and reducing harmful behaviors, thereby promoting a healthy and safe environment within public places.

The great significance of this research lies in it being an important step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as it contributes to reducing environmental pollution caused by smoking, promoting public health, and supporting the implementation of regulations and instructions prohibiting smoking in public places. It also opens the field for employing intelligent systems in the development of modern cities and improving the quality of life, in line with global trends toward sustainability.
