Workshop Entitled: “Civil Defense and Public Safety”

The College of Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with the Civil Defense Division at the Presidency of the University of Mosul and the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized a workshop entitled:
“Civil Defense and Public Safety”
on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
The workshop was delivered by Mr. Sufyan Idris Al-Barzanji.
The workshop aimed to:
Introduce the concept of civil defense and emphasize its institutional and societal importance.
Promote a culture of public safety and fire prevention awareness.
Identify common causes of fires and discuss effective preventive measures.
Provide practical training on the proper use of manual firefighting equipment.
Explain evacuation procedures and appropriate conduct during emergency situations.
Enhance awareness regarding the importance of periodic maintenance of safety equipment and systems.
This workshop forms part of the ongoing efforts of the College of Veterinary Medicine to strengthen safety awareness and institutional preparedness within the academic environment. It also reflects the College’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
through promoting occupational safety standards, institutional resilience, and community awareness initiatives.
