Workshop titled: “Monitoring and Surveillance of Infectious Diseases in Poultry in the Middle East and North Africa, and Strategies for Vaccination and Control”

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul organized a workshop on monitoring infectious diseases in poultry and strategies for vaccination and control.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. Sevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, the Women’s Affairs Committee, the Department of Pathology and Poultry Diseases, and the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit at the University Presidency, held on Monday, January 12, 2026, the workshop entitled: “Monitoring and Surveillance of Infectious Diseases in Poultry in the Middle East and North Africa, and Strategies for Vaccination and Control.”

The workshop was presented by Dr. Hossam Siham Mohammed Al-Bakri (Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan), Scientific and Executive Director of International Vaxxinova in the Middle East.

The workshop included two main themes:

First theme: Enhancing scientific knowledge among new veterinary graduates. It addressed the epidemiology and course of poultry diseases in the Middle East and North Africa, highlighting the most common diseases and predisposing factors such as farm density, continuous movement and transport of poultry, climatic conditions, and the lack of veterinary biosafety measures.

Second theme: Mechanisms for developing and implementing vaccination programs as an effective means of preventing poultry diseases. It explained the importance of selecting appropriate vaccines and administering them regularly, as this strengthens the immune system of poultry and reduces the spread of diseases. The theme also covered infection control measures, monitoring bird health, and improving farming conditions inside poultry farms.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Osama Abdul Majid, Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, presented a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in recognition of his efforts and role in the success of the workshop.

This workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
