Master’s Thesis Defense
A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine, for the thesis entitled “Seroepidemiological Study of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus in Buffalo in Mosul City, Iraq”, presented by Duha Risan Shakir under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Saddam Dhahir Hassan, on Thursday, August 8, 2026.
The examination committee consisted of the following members:

The study aimed to determine the prevalence of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) in buffaloes in Mosul City, Iraq, and to clarify the role of certain risk factors, including sex, age, herd size, management purpose, and geographical area, in the spread of the disease. The study also aimed to record the associated clinical signs and investigate certain hematological changes in infected animals.
The results revealed an overall prevalence of 4.34% and 15.21% among serum samples collected from buffalo farms using the direct ELISA and indirect antibody ELISA, respectively. Meanwhile, the overall prevalence of persistently infected animals was 0%.
Following the student’s confident and scientifically rigorous defense of her thesis and the committee’s discussion and evaluation, the thesis was accepted.
