Upon the premise of maintaining contact and interactivity with the local communities of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Qusay Al-Ahmedy, Rector of University of Mosul attended to the ceremonies of opening of the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation in Al-Mohandiseen quarter, which lies at the left side of Mosul, on Saturday, December 7 2019. The celebration was attended by Mr. Najm Al-Juboori, Governor of Nineveh Province, Mosul District Commissioner, a number of the security leaders and many other social and civil figures of Mosul. The ceremony included delivering speeches by the representative of the Pope of Vatican and the Governor of Nineveh, who emphasized the importance of the peaceful coexistence amongst the people of Mosul and the joint work to build and restore Mosul. It is worthwhile that this church was established in 1971, and is the first one being restored after the liberation of the city from the gangs of Daesh. It includes a cultural center and a students’ dormitory.
