University of Mosul occupied the first rank for Iraqi universities in Scimago Institution Ranking, which counts on the quality of academic publications published in Scopus-indexed journals of each university. Scimago, one of the best and most serious academic classifications, publishes detailed and precise statistics that derive from the published materials of universities. As to general rankings, Iraq occupied rank 70 internationally, rank 8 for Arab countries and University of Mosul, serialized 711, ranked first for Iraqi universities followed by University of Baghdad, serialized 713, which ranked second for Iraqi universities. Worthwhile is that University of Mosul progressed 56 ranks compared to its 2012 ranking, despite the hard times the University experienced during the occupation of the terrorists.
