The University of Mosul Discusses Ph.D. Dissertation on Reducing Self-Criticism Among Students Through a Gilbert-Neff-Based Educational Program

The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul discussed a Ph.D. dissertation entitled:
“The Effect of an Educational Program Based on the Gilbert-Neff Theory in Reducing Self-Criticism Among University of Mosul Students”
on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

The session was attended by Professor Dr. Hazim Dhanoun Ismail, Dean of the College, along with a number of faculty members.

The dissertation, submitted by Faten Zaki Mohammed, addressed the issue of self-criticism and its negative effects on an individual’s personality. It explored how self-compassion can foster emotional healing, enhance resilience, and minimize the impact of negative emotions.

The study aimed to assess the levels of self-criticism among students at the University of Mosul and to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program based on the Gilbert-Neff theory in reducing such tendencies.

The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Osama Hamed Mohammed, with membership including:

  • Professor Dr. Sabiha Yasser Maktoof
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Mahfouz Hamed
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Alaauddin Ali Hussein
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Jehan Saeed Adel

The dissertation was supervised and co-reviewed by Professor Dr. Nada Fattah Zidan.
