Scientific Visit to Enhance Knowledge Exchange and Explore Linguistic and Cultural Heritage

the Department of Syriac Language organized a scientific visit to the Syriac Orthodox Monastery of Mar Mattai in Nineveh on Monday, May 4, 2026.
The visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the monastery’s historical and religious significance, with a special focus on its linguistic and archaeological heritage.
The delegation was warmly received by Father Touma, who guided the students through an informative tour highlighting Syriac inscriptions and manuscripts documenting the life of Saint Mar Mattai, as well as the contributions of prominent Syriac scholars, especially Bar Hebraeus.
Father Touma also presented an overview of the monastery’s historical roots and its important role as a center of knowledge and intellectual heritage through its renowned library.
