The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul Discusses Ph.D. Dissertation on the Relationships Among Scholars in the Abbasid Era (132–334 AH / 749–945 CE)

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul held a Ph.D. dissertation defense titled “The Relationship Among Scholars in the Abbasid Era (132–334 AH / 749–945 CE).”
The dissertation, submitted by Ph.D. candidate Saqr Abdullah Hamad, explores the status of scholars during the Abbasid period and examines the nature of the relationships that existed among them—whether positive or negative—as well as the outcomes of those relationships and their broader impact on the surrounding society.

The research aims to shed light on a significant segment of Islamic society—scholars—who were regarded as role models at the time. It investigates the nature of their interactions and the implications these had on the intellectual and social fabric of the Abbasid era.

The committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Safwan Taha Hassan Hussein, and included the following members:

  • Prof. Dr. Hussein Ibrahim Mohammed Mustafa
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Huda Yassin Youssef Taha
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar Hassoun Abbo Mar’i
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Sanaa Abdullah Aziz Mohammed

The dissertation was supervised by:

  • Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ismail Abdullah Al-Jubouri
