A Thesis about Novel Beta-Lactamase inhibitors at the College of Pharmacy

Dr Ahmad A Mahmood have passes the Viva voce about the Thesis he submitted to the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry which entitled as
” Designing, Preparation and Studying the Biological Activity as Antibacterial agents of Novel Beta-Lactamase inhibitors”.

The study assessed the biological activities of synthesized compounds which were tested in vitro against 4 strains of β-lactamase G(+)ve and G(-)ve pathogenic bacteria, in addition to test their anti β-lactamases activities and comparing them with that of clavulanic acid as a co-inhibitor with amoxicillin.
The ten novel compounds (Ox3, Tz5, Tz7, Tz8, Mb1, Mb4, Mb9, Mb10, Mb14 and Ad3) showed strong β-lactamase inhibitory activities against E. coli species, resembling or in all cases more than that of clavulanic acid.
There was a remarkable attendance of the College of Pharmacy staff and Postgraduate students.
