President of the University of Mosul Opens the Educational Medicinal Herbarium at the College of Pharmacy
On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, inaugurated the Educational Medicinal Herbarium at the College of Pharmacy. The ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim Jassim, Vice President for Scientific Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Rafal Hassan Hamed, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Basil Khalaf, head of the Academics Union (Nineveh Branch); and Professor Dr. Yasser Fakhry, Dean of the College of Pharmacy.
The implementation of this project aligns with the college’s strategy to develop an integrated educational environment that enhances the practical application of Pharmacognosy. It serves the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants, as well as pharmacy students in general. The herbarium provides a dedicated scientific and research space for cultivating and studying medicinal and aromatic plants, thereby supporting both health and environmental sectors.
Furthermore, the herbarium serves as a practical training ground aimed at equipping students with hands-on skills and linking theoretical concepts in pharmacognosy with the curricula for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. This initiative is expected to elevate the quality of educational outcomes and bolster scientific research in the field of pharmacy.
In addition to its academic value, the inauguration of this herbarium contributes to the achievement of the Third, Fourth, and Thirteenth Goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
