Advanced Scientific Lecture

“Biochemistry of Bone and Mineral Disorders”
As part of the ongoing efforts by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy to advance medical education and institutionalize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an advanced scientific lecture titled “Biochemistry of Bone and Mineral Disorders” was held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The lecture was organized in collaboration with the Department of Studies and Planning at the University of Mosul, directly supporting the achievement of the global SDGs, particularly Goal 3 and Goal 4.
The session was presented by PhD candidate Rania Imad, as part of the activities of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, under the supervision of professors of Advanced Clinical Biochemistry.
Scientific Scope and Objectives
The lecture covered the biochemical aspects of major bone and mineral disorders, including:
* Osteoporosis and its metabolic pathways.
* Calcium and Phosphate imbalances.
* The regulatory roles of Vitamin D and specialized hormones.
* A comprehensive review of relevant laboratory diagnostics and their vital importance in clinical diagnosis.
This activity serves as a practical example of the role students play in knowledge production and the application of self-directed learning. It further contributes to the university’s mission toward:
* Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3): By enhancing the diagnostic and clinical understanding of metabolic diseases.
* Quality Education (Goal 4): By fostering advanced research environments and high-level academic discourse.
