College of Pharmacy Hosts Scientific Symposium on Addiction and Cyber-Blackmail to Enhance Digital Awareness

Under the supervision of the Dean, Professor Dr. Yasser Fakhry Mustafa, the University Psychological Counseling Division, in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul’s Studies and Planning Department, held a specialized guidance symposium on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The event focused on Digital Addiction and Cyber-Blackmail, as part of the college’s ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and stable campus environment.
The symposium commenced with a lecture delivered by Assistant Lecturer Hassan Mubasher Ibrahim, who discussed modern forms of addiction linked to the excessive use of digital technology and social media. He also highlighted the growing risks of cyber-blackmail and its psychological, social, and academic repercussions on students.
Key areas covered in the lecture included:
* Identifying Risks: Common tactics used by cyber-extortionists and recognizing unsafe online behaviors.
* Privacy Protection: Practical guidelines for securing personal data and strengthening digital literacy.
* Reporting Protocols: Emphasizing the necessity of immediate reporting to competent university authorities to receive psychological and legal support.
The symposium also underscored the fundamental role of the Psychological Counseling Division in providing safe channels for students to navigate digital behavioral challenges, empowering them to face pressures with confidence and responsibility.
In conclusion, the organizers reaffirmed the importance of continuous awareness activities to foster a culture of Safe Technology Usage, ensuring the protection of students and the stability of the academic environment within the campus.
