College of Pharmacy Discusses Master’s Thesis on Dual-Loaded Nanoemulsions to Enhance Antibacterial Therapy
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Mosul hosted, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Master’s thesis defense submitted by postgraduate student Raghad Radwan Ramzi Younus, entitled:
> “Dual-Loaded Nanoemulsion: The Synergistic Strategy for Antibacterial Therapy”

The study addressed the development of dual-loaded nanoemulsions to enhance antibacterial efficacy against the escalating global challenge of antimicrobial resistance. Clove oil-based and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil-based nanoemulsions were prepared using low-energy emulsification methods, loaded with levofloxacin and bee propolis, both individually and in dual combination.
The selected formulations underwent rigorous stability testing along with physicochemical characterization, followed by an evaluation of their antibacterial activity against selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Clove oil-based nanoemulsions generally exhibited stronger antibacterial potency compared to MCT oil-based systems, with dual-loaded formulations demonstrating enhanced antibacterial action.
The study findings highlight the promising potential of dual-loaded nanoemulsions as a modern drug delivery strategy capable of boosting antibacterial efficacy and addressing challenges linked to antimicrobial resistance.
