Assistant Lecturer Ziyad Abdulrahman Ali from the Department of International Relations, College of Political Science, University of Mosul, participated in the international virtual conference organized by the Faculty of Law, University of Relizane, Algeria, on Monday, 9 December 2024.

The participation included a research paper titled: “The Economic and Political Challenges of the Conflict over Natural Gas Reserves: An Analytical Study of the Eastern Mediterranean.”

The study addressed the Eastern Mediterranean region, which is witnessing a complex geopolitical conflict due to the discovery of vast natural gas reserves in its waters. These resources are among the most significant energy sources of the 21st century, turning the region into an arena of competition between regional and major powers. This has resulted in intertwined political and economic challenges, reflecting dimensions related to national sovereignty, power balance, and global energy security.

The conference saw the participation of numerous experts and academics from various Arab and international universities.
