Discussion panel on electronic blackmail

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law, and in the presence of Professor Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Muhammad Abdullah, Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, and within the We Are Peace project, which is held in cooperation between the Center for Peace Building and Peaceful Coexistence at the University of Mosul and Al-Noor University, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, in cooperation with the Confronting Electronic Blackmail Initiative Team, held a discussion panel on electronic blackmail on Thursday, February 20, 2025, which began with a speech by Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Muhammad Abdullah, in which he praised the efforts made in holding this panel, praising the distinguished student role in this activity, indicating the position of civil legislation on blackmail in general and electronic blackmail in particular. Then, Dr. Iman Abdul-Wahhab Musa / College of Arts, Department of Sociology, gave an awareness-raising lecture in which she explained the concept of blackmail, its early stages of emergence, its advanced concept, and its impact on societal stability and family cohesion, while stating its goals and dimensions And its types, methods, means, mechanisms, causes, and its relationship to the misuse of electronic technologies, the absence of family supervision, and improper upbringing, indicating that blackmail constitutes an assault on the right to privacy, and that blackmail is not limited to a specific societal group without another, indicating that the most important means of dealing with the blackmailer are self-confidence, being frank with the family, and reporting to the official authorities and competent government agencies, indicating that blackmail, if dealt with incorrectly, may lead to extremely dangerous results that may lead to the victim’s suicide, in addition to other effects represented by the disintegration of the family and an increase in the crime rate. Then, Assistant Professor Dr. Talal Abdul Hussein, Head of the Public Law Department at our college, gave a lecture that combined the scientific, specialized, and advisory awareness aspects, in which he explained the concept of electronic blackmail from a legal perspective, its causes, motives, various effects, and its scope, reviewing statistics on blackmail victims, indicating a number of judicial rulings issued against perpetrators of acts that amount to electronic crimes, indicating that the victim may be a natural or legal person, clarifying the position of the law. And the legislation within the scope of confronting electronic blackmail, and the above episode witnessed a distinguished student presence and interaction, who directed many questions and inquiries about the topic of the episode, which were answered in detail by those in charge of it, then the Deanship of the College honored the lecturers and those in charge of the work of this episode with certificates of appreciation in appreciation of their efforts in holding this activity, which comes within a series of scientific, research, cultural and student activities for our college during the current academic year 2024-2025.
