College of Administration and Economics at the University of Mosul Organizes a Specialized Guidance Workshop on Suicide Prevention and Promoting Students’ Mental Health

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, Professor Dr. Sinan Zuhair Mohammed Jameel, with the follow-up of the Head of the Accounting Department, Professor Dr. Ziad Hashim Al-Saqqa, the Accounting Department / University Guidance Committee, in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling Unit at the college, the Department of Psychological Counseling – Psychological Support Unit at the University of Mosul, and the College of Basic Education, organized a specialized guidance workshop entitled:
“Suicide: Causes, Motives, Prevention, and Treatment,”
held on Monday, April 6, 2026, in the Discussion Hall (1) at the Deanship building of the College of Administration and Economics.
The workshop was delivered by:
Assistant Professor Dr. Haifa Abdulrahman – Department of Special Education, College of Basic Education
Lecturer Dr. Omar Muwaffaq Basheer – Psychological Support Unit for Children with Autism, University of Mosul
The session was moderated by:
Assistant Professor Dr. Kubra Mohammed Taher
Lecturer Dr. Arslan Ibrahim Al-Afandi
The workshop addressed several scientific and awareness-focused themes, including an analysis of the psychological and social factors leading to suicide, as well as the underlying motives behind this phenomenon. It also reviewed key preventive and therapeutic approaches aimed at reducing its occurrence, with an emphasis on the role of academic institutions in raising mental health awareness and fostering a safe and supportive university environment.
The event was attended by the Dean of the College, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, a number of faculty members from the Accounting Department, as well as students and staff of the college. The workshop was marked by active engagement and constructive discussions, reflecting the importance of the topic and its significant impact on the academic community.
This workshop comes as part of the University of Mosul’s ongoing efforts to promote mental health awareness, strengthen counseling and psychological support programs, and contribute to safeguarding students while supporting their psychological and academic well-being, in line with modern approaches to building a comprehensive educational environment that values both academic and human aspects.
