Discussion of a master’s thesis in the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources

A master’s thesis was discussed in the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources/ College of Agriculture and Forestry / University of Mosul, for the student (Safa Muhammad Saleh Al-Qaisi) on Wednesday 25/8/2021. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus Al-Allaf (Dean of the College) attended a part of the discussion.Summary of Thesis:This study aimed to determine the effect of spatial variability on the soil edibility factor (K-factor) for alluvial soils using three widely used empirical models {Nomo model (KNomo ), EPIC model (EPIC ), and modified EPIC model ( Kr ) }. The results indicated that there are significant differences between the calculated and predict values resulted from these models and the correlation between their values was very poor. To determine the accuracy of the extracted values of the Kr-model, the regression was analyzed between its values with the values of the variables extracted from it, which indicated that the best model representing this relationship is the Multiple Regression Analysis model. Finally, we can conclude that the computing method based on the KEPIC and KNomo models is not reasonable and suitable in our study area. Therefore, in consideration of the former research and basic information, the soil erodibility in this study area was calculated using modified EPIC ( Kr ) model methods for ensuring scientific and operative results in alluvial soil or soils has a considerable content of gravel separate. The discussion committee consisted of:

  1. Prof. Dr. Jassem Khalaf Shallal … (Chairman).
  2. Prof. Dr. Iyad Abdullah Khalaf … (Member).
  3. Dr. Faris Akram Saleh …. (Member).
  4. Prof. Dr. Khaled Faleh Hassan … (Member and supervisor). Then the discussion committee read the decision which included acceptance of the thesis and award the student an M.Sc. degree.*****Congratulations on Obtaining Your Master’s Degree*****
