Department of Forests
Vision and Mission
Vision
Excellence in academic education and scientific research in forest sciences, with leadership in community service, striving to achieve international standards through the provision of modern and integrated academic programs that keep pace with global developments.
Mission
The Department of Forest Sciences aims to prepare scientifically and practically distinguished graduates in the management and sustainability of forest resources, through the delivery of advanced and applied academic education and the conduction of scientific research that contributes to the protection of forest ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable development. The department is committed to graduating qualified professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge required to meet the needs of the labor market at both local and international levels. Special emphasis is placed on the development of postgraduate programs (Master’s and Ph.D.) to support scientific research and innovation, and to prepare academic and professional leaders capable of addressing contemporary environmental challenges and serving society effectively, in alignment with global trends in forest sciences.
Objectives
- To qualify highly competent and specialized scientific personnel in forest sciences, capable of addressing professional challenges and serving the community.
- To empower agricultural engineers to develop renewable biological resources and sustainable land-use strategies, and to convert natural resources (such as wood, plants, and organic residues) into products of economic and environmental value.
- To prepare engineers capable of managing and analyzing natural resources, managing public lands such as forests, national parks, and nature reserves, and dealing with forest fires.
- To disseminate scientific knowledge in the fields of afforestation and modern technologies to support forest rehabilitation and development projects.
- To provide the agricultural sector with specialized technical staff capable of implementing and managing pioneering strategic afforestation projects aimed at combating desertification and limiting the encroachment of sand towards urban areas.
- To instill a strong conviction in agricultural engineers, graduates of the Department of Forest Sciences, regarding the importance of establishing large-scale plantations of fast-growing species capable of sequestering significant amounts of carbon emissions to mitigate the effects of global warming.
- To enhance agricultural engineers’ awareness of food security, sustainable development, and professional ethics, with an emphasis on quality control and its application in community service.
- To train students in communication and interpersonal skills to work in governmental and private institutions related to forest sciences.
- To develop the analytical and technical skills of agricultural engineers to interpret scientific research results and assess forestry-related agricultural projects.
- To strengthen agricultural engineers’ ability to evaluate soil and water properties and determine the most suitable agricultural land-use patterns under different environmental conditions, thereby contributing to soil conservation and water pollution prevention.
- To improve the quality of forest products, enhance associated industries, and support the sustainable production of environmentally responsible wood-based materials.
- To support applied and research collaboration with state institutions and various sectors to serve the public interest through specialized scientific expertise.
