By the advent of the new year, and in support of the restoration of the bazaar of Bab Al-Saray and the other bazaars of Old Mosul, Rector Kossay Alahmady attended the event titled (Will Be Restored Prettier), organized by Baytuna Foundation for Culture, Arts and Heritage, in Khan Al-Gumrug, Old Mosul, on January 1st, 2021.It is important to say that Khan Al-Gumrug is an important heritage site that was built in 1602 A.D. nearby the gate to the Ancient Bridge, next to the Mosque of Aghawat. The name Gumrug (Customhouse), loaned from Turkish, was used in the time of the Ottomans because it was the place where merchandise were kept.During the liberation of Mosul, the place was severely damaged and many buildings were totally destroyed. But, rehabilitation efforts exerted by local and central authorities could restore it to its traditional form.
