The Center for Dryland and Conservation Agriculture Research Plants New Genetic Strains of Lentils and Fava Beans in Greenhouses
The Genetic Resources Department at the Center for Dryland and Conservation Agriculture Research at the University of Mosul planted newly introduced genetic strains of lentils and fava beans in greenhouses on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
These experiments aim to select genetic strains with higher drought tolerance and superior productivity to develop new varieties that outperform local ones. This effort seeks to enhance crop yield and field productivity, ensuring sustainable cultivation. Ultimately, these advancements aim to improve farmers’ income amidst the challenges posed by climate change affecting Iraq and the region as a whole.
