Eight New Viral Strains Registered in the NCBI GenBank by Researchers from the College of Science – University of Mosul

In a significant scientific achievement added to the record of the College of Science – University of Mosul, Assistant Professor Dr. Anmar Ahmed Al-Tai, faculty member in the Department of Biology, along with Ph.D. student Mahmoud Nafea Shehab, successfully registered eight new viral strains in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) GenBank.

The newly identified viruses belong to the types:
Human coronavirus NL63, Enterovirus, and Human metapneumovirus,
and have been registered under the codes:
(An.Ma-1, An.Ma-2, An.Ma-3, An.Ma-4, An.Ma-7, An.Ma-8, An.Ma-9, An.Ma-11)
with the accession numbers: PV541780 – PV541787.

These viral strains were isolated from patients with respiratory diseases in the city of Mosul, following a series of precise molecular tests and analyses.

This accomplishment is a valuable contribution to global genetic databases and reflects the dedicated research efforts of the Department of Biology in the field of virology.

We extend our congratulations to the researchers and wish all our faculty members continued success in their academic and scientific endeavors.
