Department of Physics
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics at the University of Mosul is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits, aligned with the Bologna Process. The program provides students with a strong foundation in fundamental physical sciences, classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, and statistical physics, followed by advanced study in specialized branches such as nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, solid-state physics, electronics, and optics. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with laboratory experiments, numerical analyses, scientific research activities, and project-based learning to develop technical competence and research skills. Graduates acquire the analytical, practical, communication, and problem-solving abilities required to understand natural phenomena, design scientific experiments, and apply physical technologies in industry, energy, technology, and research sectors. The Physics to:
- Developing the ability to innovate: Students will be able to analyze and formulate complex physical problems, using a precise scientific methodology, and apply the appropriate physical principles and mathematical models to solve them, while documenting the solution steps and results.
- Linking theory to application and providing institutions with qualified graduates: The Department of Physics seeks to enhance its partnerships with industrial and research institutions to provide practical training for its students, enabling them to gain practical research and technical experience and meet the needs of the labor market
- Improving the quality of scientific research and developing graduate programs: The Department of Physics aims to prepare a generation of physicist researchers by providing students with advanced research knowledge and skills. It focuses in particular on developing specialized graduate programs in future physics fields
- Enhancing creative communication skills and promoting environmental sustainability: The Department of Physics focuses on developing students’ creative communication skills through specialized courses, with the aim of enabling them to become ambassadors of science and knowledge
- Enhancing ethical awareness and preparing a generation of scientists committed to the highest standards: The Department of Physics attaches great importance to enhancing students’ ethical awareness, considering scientific ethics as the basis for graduating responsible scientists. To achieve this, the department organizes workshops on scientific ethics with the aim of instilling commitment to ethical and professional standards among students, and enabling them to contribute effectively and responsibly to serving science and society.
- Encouraging effective teamwork and promoting international cooperation: The Physics Department focuses on instilling the value of teamwork in students from the early stages through courses that include group projects aimed at developing cooperation skills and exchanging experiences among students. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics program is governed by the regulations and admission policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must meet the approved admission criteria for science programs.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics, students must successfully satisfy all graduation requirements, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits, including all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
- Successful completion of all required laboratory work, computational physics training, and other practical components of the program, where applicable.
- Compliance with all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, and graduation as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics program, graduates are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Graduate Outcomes (GOs):
GO1: Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex physics problems by applying the foundational principles of physics and mathematics, accurately deriving equations and computing numerical results.
GO2: Ability to apply physical concepts to develop technical solutions for challenges in energy, environment, and medical and industrial applications that meet the needs of society and the labor market.
GO3:Ability to design and conduct laboratory and field experiments, collect and analyze data, calculate experimental errors, and interpret results in comparison with established physical theories.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics are qualified to pursue professional careers in a wide range of public and private sectors, including:

The Physics Program adopts the examination, assessment, and grading regulations approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Student performance is assessed through a variety of continuous and summative assessment methods, including:
- Continuous assessment (quizzes, homework assignments, and classroom activities).
- Midterm examinations.
- Final examinations (theoretical and practical).
- Laboratory reports and mineral/fossil identification practical tests.

To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics, students must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits and all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements, including the required cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Successful completion of mandatory geological fieldwork training camps, graduation projects, and all required laboratory and practical components.
- Fulfillment of all academic and administrative requirements for the award of the bachelor’s degree.

The role includes overseeing curriculum delivery, monitoring the achievement of Graduate Outcomes, coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising advanced physics laboratories and practical/field training, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, MOHESR regulations, and program accreditation requirements.
