The Bachelor of Science program in New and Renewable Energy at the University of Mosul is a four-year undergraduate program offered by the Department of New and Renewable Energies, College of Science. The New and Renewable Energy Program aims to:
- Develop graduates’ skills and enhance their readiness for the labor market by strengthening scientific and practical competencies in new and renewable energy.
- Conduct advanced scientific research focused on utilizing local resources and developing renewable-energy technologies that support environmental and economic sustainability.
- Support society and governmental institutions in addressing energy challenges by providing consultations and effective solutions that enhance energy efficiency.
- Promote sustainable development by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting environmental protection and the green economy.
- Develop students’ technical and ethical skills and prepare graduates who adhere to professional standards.
- Integrate artificial intelligence and nanotechnology into the energy sector to improve the performance and efficiency of renewable-energy resources.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in New and Renewable Energy Sciences by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Students are admitted through the centralized admission system of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Admission is based on the approved secondary-school branches, sequence of choices, academic average, number of applicants, and the minimum admission grades.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science degree in New and Renewable Energy Sciences, students must:
- Successfully pass the four academic stages.
- Attend at least 90% of the scheduled hours for each subject; a student is considered not to have completed a subject if absence exceeds 10% of its total hours.
- Obtain a passing grade of at least 50% in each subject, according to the approved evaluation method.
- Successfully complete the required summer training in a state department related to the specialization after passing the third stage.
- Complete the graduation research/project and successfully pass its discussion in the fourth stage.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and academic credit transfer are permitted only in the context of student transfers or the recognition of equivalent courses. Such cases are evaluated and processed in accordance with the applicable regulations, policies, and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Upon completion of the program, graduates are expected to possess the following knowledge and abilities:
- GO1: Work with renewable-energy sources and apply renewable-energy technologies to improve environmental quality and energy efficiency.
- GO2: Design and establish renewable-energy systems for generating clean energy using available resources.
- GO3: Understand the functions and applications of renewable energy for efficient energy production in a clean and pollution-free environment.
- GO4: Apply renewable-energy technologies and integrate them with artificial intelligence and nanotechnology to generate clean, high-quality, and efficient energy.
- GO5: Calculate energy obtained from renewable sources and optimize its use to improve energy efficiency in buildings, institutions, commercial properties, and industrial facilities.
- GO6: Solve energy-technology challenges through data analysis and scientific interpretation of results.
- GO7: Communicate effectively and work collaboratively while demonstrating analytical and critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
- GO8: Assume responsibility and leadership individually and within teams, with adaptability and a focus on sustainability.
- GO9: Use data, facts, and ideas to solve problems while adhering to professional ethics and lifelong learning.

Graduates hold a Bachelor’s degree in New and Renewable Energy Sciences and possess specialized scientific and technical knowledge in energy-related applied sciences. The employment fields in departments or institutions affiliated with the Ministries of Electricity, Industry, Oil, Health, Environment, Municipalities, Defense, Agriculture, and Water Resources with the expertise to:
- Renewable-energy and energy-efficiency activities in governmental institutions.
- Electricity, oil, industry, environmental, agricultural, and water-resource sectors.
- Technical and research activities related to solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, and geothermal energy.
- Scientific and technical support roles involving renewable-energy systems and sustainable-energy applications.
The department seeks to strengthen undergraduate study programs and starts of postgraduate programs since the academic year 2026-2027.
Student achievement is evaluated using the approved departmental and university assessment methods. The report specifies a minimum passing grade of 50% for each subject and requires continuous monitoring of attendance at theoretical and practical lectures. It also refers to student surveys concerning academic subjects and the level of examination questions as part of the continuous-improvement process.

Students must successfully complete the four academic stages, satisfy attendance and passing-grade requirements, complete summer training after the third stage, and complete and defend the graduation project in the fourth stage before the Bachelor of Science degree in New and Renewable Energy Sciences is awarded.
The program is a four-year undergraduate Bachelor of Science program. The academic system as semester-based and the language of instruction as English. Learning combines theoretical and practical study and includes summer training and a fourth-stage graduation project.
