Astronomy Scout Camp for College of Science Students in the Mountains of Duhok

✨ Where scientific journeys begin, curiosity is sharpened, and the spirit of discovery is born…
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the Astronomy Scout Camp for students of the College of Science was launched in the mountains of Duhok, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, Dean of the College of Science. This activity is part of the college’s annual plan to support extracurricular activities and foster student skills development.
During the camp, the college astronomy team observed a lunar eclipse, as well as Saturn and its moons, and the Pleiades cluster (M45), providing students with simplified scientific explanations of these celestial phenomena. These moments of stargazing offered students a valuable opportunity to deepen knowledge and enhance the spirit of scientific curiosity and discovery.
This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
-
Quality Education, by combining practical experience with learning.
-
Good Health and Well-being, by promoting outdoor, healthy engagement.
-
Life on Land, through environmental awareness and astronomy education.
