Registration of six new fungal strains in NCBI isolated from soil contaminated with plastic

Within the scene of scientific achievements in the College of Science / Department of Biology Sciences, the head of the Department of Biology sciences( Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdul Hadi Mohammed), the rapporteur of the Department of Biology sciences (Prof. Dr. Hadeel Ahmed al-Amiri ) and the master’s student ( Momen Manhal Abdul Salam) recorded six new fungal strains belonging to different genera of fungi for the first time at the National Center for Biotechnology Information NCBI, namely

1-Geotrichum silvicola ( Mo.Am.Ha.6)

2-Aspergillus cervinus(Mo.Am.Ha.5)

3-Aspergillus flavus (Mo.Am.Ha.4)

4-Chaetomium globosum(Mo.Am.Ha.3)

5-Rhizoctonia solani(Mo.Am.Ha.2)

6-Aspergillus niger(Mo.Am.Ha.1)

The presence of these fungi is an important vital indicator of the ability of these fungi to consume plastic as an energy source, which opens up future prospects for their use in the biological treatment of industrial plastic waste.

Our wishes to the employees and students of our college for the continuation of giving and creativity
