A college member from the College of Science chaired a master’s thesis defense at the College of Health Sciences, University of Duhok.

Based on the College of Science’s commitment to promoting scientific activities, strengthening academic cooperation among Iraqi universities, and facilitating the exchange of scientific expertise among college members, Dr. Anmar Ahmed Dawood, a college member in the Department of Biology Sciences at our college, participated in the discussion of a Master’s thesis at the College of Health Sciences, University of Duhok, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The thesis, titled:
Serological and Molecular Profile of HBV and HCV Among Thalassemia Patients
was presented by student Lizan Wahbi Younis.
The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection control among thalassemia patients in Duhok, while exposure to hepatitis C virus (HCV) remains a significant public health concern. The extremely low rate of active viral replication highlights the importance of molecular testing for accurate diagnosis. Regular molecular screening, sustained vaccination programs, and enhanced blood safety strategies are essential to reducing the risk of viral hepatitis infection in patients receiving multiple blood transfusions.
At the conclusion of the discussion, Professor Dr. Anmar Ahmed Dawood was honored by the Dean of the College with a letter of thanks and appreciation in recognition of his distinguished scholarly efforts and his active contribution in chairing the discussion.
In closing, the College of Science wishes all its esteemed professors and students continued success in their academic pursuits.
