Department of Biology Holds Two Graduate Student Seminars

As part of the seminar activities organized by the College of Science / Department of Biology, two academic seminars were held on the morning of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall, with the participation of a number of faculty members and postgraduate students.

The first seminar was presented by Ph.D. student Ahmed Khalid Hamdoon in the field of Microbiology, entitled:

“Isolation and Identification of Surface Proteins of Streptococcus spp. Isolated from Different Clinical Sources, and Studying Their Relation with Immunological Parameters”

under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim and Assistant Professor Dr. Aws Ibrahim Suleiman.

The seminar focused on the isolation and identification of surface proteins of Streptococcus species isolated from various clinical sources, as well as the study of their relationship with immunological parameters, highlighting their significance in understanding pathogenic mechanisms and immune responses.

The second seminar was presented by M.Sc. student Hanan Aziz Nayif in the field of Zoology, entitled:

“Evaluation of Certain Physiological and Biochemical Parameters as Risk Factors in Thyroid Cancer”

under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Abeer Ali Kadhim.

The seminar addressed the evaluation of several physiological and biochemical indicators and their potential role as risk factors for thyroid cancer, emphasizing their importance in early diagnosis and clinical follow-up.
