Qualitative Steps to Develop the Iraqi National Journal of Earth Sciences at the University of Mosul

The Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, held a meeting with the editorial staff of the Iraqi National Journal of Earth Sciences, during which a comprehensive review of the journal’s operational mechanisms was conducted, along with discussions on ways to further develop its performance in line with rigorous academic standards and internationally recognized scholarly publishing requirements.

The meeting included a detailed presentation of the journal’s current status and proposed development plans aimed at enhancing the quality of published research and strengthening the journal’s presence in global indexing databases. Emphasis was also placed on strict adherence to ministerial regulations and guidelines governing academic journals. In addition, the need to support the journal with qualified personnel experienced in managing its electronic publishing system was discussed, in order to improve workflow efficiency and streamline publication procedures.

The meeting also reviewed several official letters issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding updates in scholarly publishing policies, accreditation standards, and quality assurance mechanisms. It was stressed that the journal’s procedures must align with these directives to further strengthen its scientific standing and consolidate its role in supporting research at both national and international levels.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Dean reaffirmed her full support for the editorial board’s efforts, commending the journal’s important scientific role in showcasing high-quality geological research. She also emphasized the necessity of continued institutional development to reflect the distinguished academic reputation of the College of Science and the University of Mosul.
