Workshop Entitled “Forensic Chemistry and Its Applications in Chemical Sciences”

Under the generous patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Forensic Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haitham Luqman Shihab, and within the framework of the Continuing Education Program, a scientific workshop entitled:

“Forensic Chemistry and Its Applications in Chemical Sciences”

was held on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Falaknaz Rashid Qader, Lecturer Dr. Reem Nawaf Hamdoon, Lecturer Dr. Ali Ihsan Hussein, and Assistant Lecturer Lama Ahmed Mubarak, and was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the department.

The workshop introduced the concept of forensic chemistry and its role in criminal investigations and the identification of scientific evidence. It also highlighted the most important chemical techniques used in evidence analysis and explained the role of chemists in forensic laboratories.

In addition, the presenters discussed methods for handling forensic samples such as blood, toxic substances, narcotics, and explosive residues, while shedding light on modern applications of chemistry in crime detection, including toxicological analysis, document forgery detection, and fire investigations.

The workshop emphasized the growing importance of forensic chemistry as an interdisciplinary field that combines scientific knowledge with practical investigative techniques, contributing to the advancement of justice and public safety.
