Scientific Workshop in the Department of Biology on the Utilization of Bacteria and Fungi in Biotechnological Applications

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Biology, Asst. Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdul Hadi, the Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Unit and the Sustainable Development Unit, organized a scientific workshop on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, entitled:
“Utilization of Bacteria and Fungi in Biotechnological Applications.”
The workshop addressed key practical applications of bacteria and fungi in health, clean energy, industry, and innovation, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
It highlighted that microorganisms represent a national resource that can be harnessed to address environmental, industrial, and agricultural challenges, while presenting local and international success stories in the production of antibiotics, enzymes, and waste treatment technologies.
The workshop concluded with the importance of supporting applied research and building partnerships between universities and the private sector to commercialize scientific outputs.
The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Israa Ghanem Hazem, Asst. Prof. Dr. Warqaa Saeed Qasim, Asst. Prof. Dr. Enass Abdulmunim Hussein, and Dr. Sahar Salem Butros, in the presence of a group of university professors and researchers in biological and environmental sciences.
