Department of Biology Holds Scientific Seminars for Postgraduate Students

The Department of Biology at the College of Science – University of Mosul organized two scientific seminars for postgraduate students on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall, in the presence of a number of faculty members and postgraduate students.

The first seminar was presented by PhD student in Botany, Nassar Ghani Sabri, titled:

“The Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation, Salinity, and Ascorbic Acid Treatment on Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) and the Allelopathic Role of Its Vegetative Parts on Soybean (Glycine max L.)”

The study addressed the impact of environmental stress factors and biochemical treatments on plant growth, as well as the allelopathic effects of plant residues on other plant species.

The second seminar was presented by Master’s student in Microbiology, Khalil Nawaf Ghareeb, titled:

“Measuring the Level of Inflammatory Cytokines as a Risk Factor in Type 2 Diabetes Patients in Nineveh”

This study focused on measuring inflammatory cytokine levels and their role as risk factors in Type 2 diabetes patients in Nineveh Province.

These seminars were part of postgraduate requirements and were supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali for the first student and Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abduljabbar Hussein for the second.
