Seminar for Postgraduate Students in the Department of Geology and Petroleum

As part of efforts to support scientific research and strengthen academic capabilities, Master’s student Israa Nashwan Yahya Al-Taie from the Department of Geology and Petroleum, College of Science, delivered a scientific seminar in the field of Micropaleontology on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, in the presence of a number of faculty members and postgraduate students from the department.
The seminar was entitled:
“Ostracoda and Biostratigraphy of the Anah Formation in Khabbaz-3 Well, Northern Iraq”
and was supervised by Professor Dr. Nasreen Mal Allah Aziz.
The study aimed to identify the genera and species of Ostracoda within the Anah Formation and determine their stratigraphic distribution and biostratigraphic significance. It also sought to utilize Ostracoda assemblages to reconstruct the depositional environment and paleoclimate of the period, as well as to identify ancient marine connections based on the distribution and occurrence of Ostracoda groups. Furthermore, the findings were compared with previous studies conducted both within Iraq and internationally.
The research was based on both field and laboratory investigations, including the examination of rock sequences, microscopic analyses, and the necessary laboratory tests.
The seminar featured productive scientific discussions and an exchange of expertise between faculty members and students, contributing to the enhancement of research skills and the development of academic competencies.
We extend our best wishes to our students for continued progress and success.
