Department of Biology Holds a Scientific Seminar for a PhD Student at the College of Science

The Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Mosul, organized a scientific seminar for PhD student Raqaa Abdulmuhsin Mohammed Saleh specializing in Microbiology, on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, in Professor Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall, in the presence of a number of faculty members and postgraduate students from the department.

The seminar was entitled:

“Study of Gut Microbiome Diversity and the Level of Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) Metabolite in Atherosclerosis Patients.”

The presentation addressed the diversity of the gut microbiome and the levels of the metabolite Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) in patients with atherosclerosis. The topic is of significant importance in understanding the relationship between gut microbiota and cardiovascular diseases, as well as its role in developing potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and monitoring.

This scientific activity is part of the requirements for completing the student’s PhD thesis and was conducted under the supervision of Professor Dr. Amira Mahmoud Mohammed Al-Rawi. The seminar included valuable scientific discussions that contributed to enriching the study and further developing its research aspects.
