Department of Biology Holds Two Scientific Seminars for Postgraduate Students at the College of Science

The Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Mosul, organized two scientific seminars for postgraduate students on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, in Professor Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall. The event was attended by a number of faculty members and postgraduate students from the department.
The first seminar was presented by PhD student Ibtihal Idrees Kanaan, specializing in Microbiology, and was entitled:
“Isolation and Identification of Antimicrobial and Plasmid-Curing Agents from Pathogenic and Environmental Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates.”
The study focused on the isolation and identification of agents with antimicrobial activity, as well as plasmid-curing agents, from pathogenic and environmental isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The research highlights the importance of this topic in combating antibiotic resistance and developing promising alternative therapeutic approaches.
The second seminar was delivered by Master’s student Sana Saad Hashim, also specializing in Microbiology, and was entitled:
“Isolation and Molecular Diagnosis of Phosphate-Solubilizing Bacteria and the Study of Some of Its Biological Applications.”
The presentation addressed the isolation and molecular identification of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria using molecular techniques, along with the investigation of some of their biological applications in agricultural and environmental fields. The study also examined their role in improving soil fertility and promoting plant growth.
These seminars were conducted as part of the postgraduate students’ research requirements under the supervision of Professor Dr. Rayan Mazin Faisal. The sessions featured valuable scientific discussions that contributed to enriching and further developing the research topics.
