On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul held five scientific seminars for graduate students in the Hall of Professor Dr. Qusay Chalabi, in the presence of a number of department teachers and graduate students. The scientific program began with the first seminar presented by Azhar Yunus dhanon, PhD student in the branch of Zoology, entitled: “Determine the Relationship between the Role of Gene Regulation in Genes Responsible for Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Some Physiological Parameters” The seminar dealt with the study of the relationship between the regulation of genes responsible for dilated cardiomyopathy and some physiological variables, in order to understand their role in the mechanisms of disease occurrence and the possibility of using them in supporting diagnostic methods. The second seminar was presented by a master’s student in the branch of microbiology, Iman said Mousa, entitled: “Molecular diagnostics of bacteria causing bacteremia in adults and finding their relationship with liver function” The seminar dealt with the diagnosis of bacteria causing bacteremia using molecular techniques, and the study of the relationship between bacterial infection and changes in liver function in adult patients. While the master’s student in the branch of Botany, Ikhlas Abdul Rahim Mohammed, presented the third seminar, entitled: “The use of vegetable oils in inhibiting the growth of toxin-producing fungi” The seminar dealt with evaluating the efficiency of a number of vegetable oils in inhibiting the growth of toxin-producing fungi, and studying the possibility of using them as natural alternatives in reducing the growth of these fungi. The fourth seminar was presented by the master’s student in the branch of Botany, Faner Bashar Fadel, entitled: “The effect of biofertilizers on some physiological processes and the content of some terpenoid compounds in the mint plant (Mentha) grown in two types of soil” The seminar dealt with the study of the effect of biofertilizers in a number of physiological indicators and the content of terpenoid compounds in mint planted in two different types of soil, in order to assess their role in improving plant growth and its vital components. The program concluded with the fifth seminar presented by the master‘s student in the branch of microbiology Mustafa Basman Idris Ibrahim, entitled: “A phenotypic and genetic study of pathogenic bacteria isolated from bedsores” The seminar dealt with the study of the phenotypic and genetic characteristics of pathogenic bacteria isolated from bedsores, in order to identify their types and the most prominent characteristics associated with pathogenicity, in support of studies related to the diagnosis of these infections. The first seminar was held under the supervision of assistant professor Dr. Abeer Atallah Ayed and professor Dr. Owais Mowafaq Hamed, the second seminar was held under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ghada Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, the third seminar was held under the supervision of Professor Dr. Maha Akram Mohammed, the fourth seminar was held under the supervision of assistant professor Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali, while the fifth seminar was held under the supervision of assistant professor Dr. Inas Abdel Moneim Hussein. The seminars witnessed scientific discussions and interventions from the attendees, which contributed to enriching the research topics and discussing their various scientific aspects.
