Master thesis discusses the use of crumple plant extracts as natural alternatives to promote sustainable agriculture

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis entitled ” The use of crumple plant extracts as natural alternatives to promote sustainable agriculture”, presented by researcher Ahmed Haider Atiya Hassan, Botany major. The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility of using aqueous extracts of the leaves of the frizz plant (Teucrium polium L.) As a natural and safe alternative to improve the growth and productivity of the pea plant (Vicia faba L.), And to study their impact on a number of productivity and vitality indicators for three varieties of peas, which contributes to supporting sustainable agriculture trends and reducing dependence on chemical inputs. The results of the study showed that the effect of crinkle plant extracts was not limited to proving allopathic efficacy, but also explained its association with the mechanism of Hormesis, with the determination of the concentration interval between the stimulating effect at a concentration of 1.5% and the inhibitory effect at a concentration of 3%, supported by a statistical analysis of three varieties of Bacillus. The study also revealed, through the GC-MS technique, the diagnosis of the compound Ibuprofen ethyl ester for the first time in the seeds of peas, which opens up new research prospects in this area. It was also able to isolate and diagnose four new bacterial strains from the root nodes of the studied Bacillus species, belonging to the genus Enterobacter, and register them in the NCBI global GenBank with official accession numbers, in a scientific achievement that enhances knowledge of the bacterial diversity associated with Root nodes, and indicates the role of these endogenous bacteria in stimulating plant growth and increasing soil fertility. The discussion Committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Warqa Saeed Qasem, and the membership of assistant professor Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali and teacher Dr. Heba Hadi Taha, while the thesis was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Wassan Saleh Hussein.
