The publication of a new scientific research by researchers from the Faculty of Science in an international journal classified under Q1

In a new research achievement added to the Register of scientific excellence of the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul, a joint scientific paper by researchers from the Department of Life Sciences was published in Frontiers in Immunology, one of the leading international journals in the field of immunity, classified within the first quarter (Q1) in both Scopus and web of Science – Clarivate, with an Impact Factor coefficient of 7 and CiteScore of 11.3. The research came up with the title: “Chimeric vaccine based on Iraqi HLA alleles against a predominant local Escherichia coli phylogroup” The research was carried out by the dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, and the researcher Aziz Tamo Koro Kjell, a lecturer in the Department of life sciences. The research dealt with the design and development of a multivariate vaccine (Chimeric Multi-episode Vaccine) targeting a locally prevalent group of Escherichia coli bacteria causing urinary tract infections, based on Iraqi HLA alleles, with the aim of developing a vaccine strategy that takes into account the immunological and genetic characteristics of the local population. The study adopted an integrated research approach that combined bioinformatics, molecular design of the vaccine, immunological evaluation and animal experiments. The research represents an important scientific addition in the development of modern vaccines against bacterial pathogens, especially through the use of local HLA alleles in the design of a vaccine targeting a locally dominant bacterial strain or group, which opens up prospects for the development of vaccine strategies more customized and appropriate to the genetic and immunological characteristics of communities. This achievement confirms the growing research presence of the Faculty of Science in international scientific forums, and reflects the efforts of its researchers in producing research of scientific and Applied Value and publishing in prestigious international journals, which contributes to enhancing the research status of the Faculty of Science and the University of Mosul at the regional and international levels.
