Master thesis discusses the life stratigraphy of calcareous nanofossils in the formation of the shranch of northwestern Iraq

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the Department of Earth and petroleum sciences at the Faculty of science of Mosul University discussed the master’s thesis tagged ” life stratigraphy of calcareous nanoliths to form a cocoon in the well ( Az_29 ) in northwestern Iraq ” by the researcher ( ghadak Khairy Abdul Razzaq Abdul Rahim al-Barawi), part of which was attended by the dean of the Faculty of science, professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, the assistant dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Ryan Mazen al-Obeidi, the head of the department, Dr. Omar khalouk Mohammed Sajid and a number of department teachers and graduate students. The study dealt with the classification of calcareous calcareous nannofossils for the formation of the cocoon in the Ain zaleh oil field in northwestern Iraq, determining its stratigraphic life zone and comparing it globally to determine the age of the formation as well as the possibility of identifying the nature of the ancient climate during the deposition of the cocoon in the study section * The taxonomic study of the studied section recorded the diagnosis of 52 species belonging to 25 genera belonging to 13 families of calcareous nanofossils Four life zones have been identified, which are among the oldest at the bottom : 1-Ceratolithoides aculeus Interavel zone (cc20),part 2-Uniplanarius sissinghii Interval zone (cc21) 3-Uniplanarius trifidus Interval zone (cc22) 4- Tranolithus phaclosus Interval zone (cc23), part The stratigraphic age of the studied age was determined by the end of the early Campanian to the end of the late Campanian and the deposition of the schrunch formation was under tropical to subtropical climatic conditions * The study recommended the study of calcareous nanofossils of other sections of the formation of schranch in Iraq in order to study the boundary between the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras The discussion Committee was chaired by Dr. Omar Ahmed Mouloud Al-Badrani, the membership of assistant professor Dr. Ibrahim Younis Ahmed Al-Sharifi, teacher Dr. Alaa Sabah Saleh, and the membership and supervision of assistant professor Dr. Mahfouz Abdullah Ali ، Our wishes to the researcher and to all graduate students and faculty teachers for success, excellence and creativity .
