Master thesis discusses the spectral and chromatographic estimation of pharmaceuticals according to the principles of green chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, discussed the master’s thesis tagged ” spectral estimation of cefdenir and silver sulfadiazine and the estimation of cefdenir by high-performance liquid chromatography in their pharmaceutical preparations ” by master’s student Abdulrahman Saad abduljabar Al-bagua, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Yusuf Abdullah Shihab for discussions. The aim of the study was to develop new analytical methods for estimating cefdenir and silver sulfadiazine in their pure form and pharmaceutical preparations, characterized by simplicity, accuracy, high sensitivity, and low cost, with a full focus on applying the principles of green and sustainable analytical chemistry. The results showed that the use of natural dye extracted from” beetroot ” represents an ideal environmentally friendly option and compatible with sustainability standards compared to industrial dyes; being a renewable and non-toxic material, the method has achieved practical success with excellent linearity and recovery in pharmaceuticals. Cefdenir was estimated using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technology with high accuracy, while making it compatible with green chemistry by reducing the consumption of organic solvents and using less toxic mobile phases. The reaction of oxidation and coupling with the “pyrogallol” reagent was used to form a colored and stable output, and all the developed methods were evaluated by calculating the coefficients of linearity, molar absorbance, sensitivity, detection limits and quantification to ensure their reliability. The innovative methods in this thesis are green and sustainable alternatives that are in line with modern global trends in Analytical Chemistry by reducing waste and environmental risks. The discussion Committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Moaz Abdullah Najm, with the membership of : assistant professor Dr. Basma Ahmed Abdul Hadi Salim, teacher Dr. OS Narges Khalil, and under the supervision and membership of assistant professor Dr. Lamia Adnan Najib sarsem. In conclusion, the committee praised the outstanding scientific effort exerted in the thesis and its applied importance, which represents a successful model for sustainable analysis.
