Master thesis discusses the spectral estimation of doxycycline and salbutamol sulfate

On Monday, August 31, 2026, the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science discussed the master’s thesis entitled ” spectral estimation of doxycycline and salbutamol sulfate in their pure form and in their pharmaceutical preparations”, submitted by student Aya Tariq Ibrahim Rashid Al-Taie, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Youssef Abdullah Shihab for discussions. The aim of the study was to develop simple, sensitive and low-cost spectroscopic methods for estimating doxycycline and salbutamol sulfate in their pure form and pharmaceutical preparations, while employing some methods with principles compatible with green and sustainable analytical chemistry. The study included the development of a number of spectroscopic methods based on different color reactions, along with the use of area measurements under the curve (AUC), the application of the cloud point extraction method to estimate salbutamol sulfate, as well as the use of starch–potassium iodide reagent as an environmentally friendly option. The results showed that the proposed analytical methods achieved excellent linearity according to the Beer–Lambert Law, good recovery ratios, high accuracy and compatibility, which confirms the possibility of their adoption in Pharmacological analysis. The discussion Committee was chaired by Dr. Hana Mahmoud Shukr Ahmed, with the membership of assistant professor Dr. Safa Abdul Alim Ahmed Younis and teacher Dr. Asma nateeq Abdul Qadir Mahmoud, and under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Nabil Sabih Othman.
